CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

THE SOCIETY
The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society was established to further support the aims and ideals of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society which is actively engaged in the advancement of undersea medicine, clinical hyperbaric medicine and support services. Further, the Chapter provides a basis for the facilitation of regional meetings, forums, and exchange of ideas among members of the chapter to encourage equality of relationships between various categories of member’s specialties.

PROGRAM
This years meeting is being held conjointly with the Baromedical Nurses Association and the UHMS Associates and is being hosted by the San Antonio Area Hyperbaric Community. Preliminary plans include a program of symposia, original papers, panel discussions and open forum workshops for Medical, Nursing and Technical Directors. The theme for this years meeting is "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". There will be presentations tracing our past, stating our present and predicting our future.

In addition, the program will include the Edgar End Memorial Lecture and the annual business luncheon. The Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Saturday October 14 at the World Famous Buckhorn Saloon and Museum.

The BNA and Associates will have a joint business luncheon.

The National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology has scheduled a certification testing session for Thursday, October 12.

The registration fee includes a badge, program and abstracts, opening reception, continental breakfasts, refreshments during breaks, tour of local hyperbaric facility and a ticket to the Annual Awards Banquet. PROGRAM AND ABSTRACTS
A full program, which includes abstracts, will be handed out to all registrants at the meeting.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is August 15, 2000.

Abstracts are invited from members of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, Baromedical Nurses Association and those other individuals who have demonstrated a clear interest in clinical, technical and safety factors germane to the hyperbaric and undersea environment.

Abstracts will be selected for presentation on the basis of quality. Individual presentations as well as group presentations in the following topics are being solicited:

1. Diving Medicine Issues
2. Hyperbaric Medicine Issues
3. Research/Training Issues
4. Safety/Technical Issues

In the interest of conservation and cost consciousness, abstract forms will not be provided. Abstracts are to be submitted on 8.5" by 11" 20# white, bond paper. The margins are to be:
Top: 2 inches
Sides: 1.5 inches
Bottom: 3 inches

The name of the paper should be capitalized and the author and organization underlined. First sentence in each paragraph indented 5 spaces. All abstracts will be reproduced as submitted, therefore, please type or use laser printer if mailing. Dot matrix printers should be avoided because of the poor reproducing quality. If E-mailing, please submit in standard Word format. At the bottom of the abstract page, indicate type of equipment required for the presentation.

A standard 35-mm slide projector and a LCD projector will be available in the session room. Other equipment can be made available if essential to the presentation and the author indicates the equipment needed on the abstract.

PRESENTATION OF PAPERS

First authors will be notified of the disposition of the abstract and time for presentation in early September 2000. It is preferred that the selected papers be presented and discussed by the first named author.
MAILING INSTRUCTIONS
DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS
August 15, 2000
If mailing please submit the following:

1. The original abstract for photo reproduction
2. Five clear copies of the abstract
3. Cardboard backing to avoid damage in the mail
